At Karoo Lambs we have a transparent pricing policy, which means we want you to know exactly how our prices are made up.
Lamb weight
An average lamb is slaughtered at 48Kg, and the slaughter out percentage is roughly 45%.
Once a lamb is slaughtered it is hung for 4 days and it loses on average 1.8% of the 'slaughtered out' body mass.
Cutting up a lamb causes another 5% loss from the 'hung' mass (roughly 1 Kg per lamb).
This leaves approximately 20Kg of meat per lamb that can be sold.
